August adds hundreds of Warwickshire, Worcestershire and Yorkshire data sets

Dear OGIers,

I have finally completed the massive import project for Ancestry's Worcestershire and Yorkshire collections released in June and July.  The Worcestershire collection of Bishop's Transcripts was a mess as many place names were misspelled.  Also, that collection includes parts of Gloucestershire, Staffordshire and a lot of Warwickshire.  The Online Genealogical Index now contains 444,333 data sets.

The breakdown of today's upload is as follows.

  • OPC Dorset - 4 new data sets
  • TINSTAAFL Marriage Project - 8 new parishes
  • TINSTAAFL Norfolk Baptisms - 1 new parish
  • Cornwall OPC Database - 58 new data sets
  • Ancestry's Worcestershire Church of England Bishop's Transcripts - 1,439 data sets
  • Ancestry's York Church of England Parish Registers - 746 data sets
It is good to see new collections coming to light.  I am a bit disappointed that the for profit companies release such a mess of data, often with no indices but I will continue to put the hours in to make sense of them for the benefit of all OGIers!

Have a wonderful summer and see you again soon here on the OGI Blog.

Kind regards,

Tim Manners

I have just completed six rounds of chemo and will require rest and time so hopefully the energy will be available to continue releasing updates and gathering data.

Thanks for your support and use of the site.

With kind regards,

June update adds 785 new data sets

Happy June to all OGIers!

As we bask in record breaking temperatures for 2022 in the UK, I hope you are enjoying the shade during your genealogical research indoors!

Today's update will be of great benefit to those with ancestors throughout England and Wales with many focusing on Cornwall, Durham and Norfolk.

North Elmham, Norfolk, is where many of my wife's ancestors lived and died.

Findmypast are expanding their Norfolk Gravestone image collection by adding transcriptions (though my wife's great-great-grandmother's grave is recorded as Arthur Margaret Jarrett as it had her husband mentioned as well!)

The update has added 785 new data sets to the site bringing the new total to 440,981.

Here are today's details.

  • Cornwall OPC Database - 48 new data sets
  • Durham Records Online - 7 new data sets
  • Durham and Northumberland - Cemetery Index (96 cemeteries)
  • Essex and Suffolk Surnames - 7 new parish registers
  • Findmypast Newspaper Birth Notices - 48 towns covered
  • Findmypast Newspaper Death Notices - 58 towns covered
  • Findmypast Newspaper Marriage Notices - 39 towns covered
  • Findmypast Norfolk Gravestone Photos - 91 new cemeteries
  • Findmypast Norfolk Gravestone Transcriptions - 345 cemeteries
  • Gravestonephotos.com - 14 new cemeteries
  • Lancashire OPC - 11 new data sets
  • OPC Dorset - 1 new data set
  • TINSTAAFL Marriage Project - 25 new parishes
  • TINSTAAFL Norfolk Baptisms - 3 new parishes

As you can see, if you have ancestors in these areas, it is worth taking a new look to find these new data sources.

Have a wonderful summer.  I hope to add more data as I find it.

Kind regards,

Tim Manners

Another May Update!

Dear OGIers,

I am happy to report that a large update was added to the database today.  2,800 items to be exact bringing the current total to 440,197.  The majority of the updates are from the county of Sussex thanks to new collections released by Ancestry last week.   The coverage for this county is now extensive and expanded into the 1900s further than every before.  I even found some burials records up to 2015 (despite the Ancestry collection label stating up to 1995).

For those of you with Herefordshire ancestry, Findmypast has expanded their Herefordshire Marriages collection and added thousands of new records also.

Here is today's update in detail:

  • Cornwall OPC Database (105 new data sets)
  • Findmypast Herefordshire Marriages (450 new data sets covering multiple counties)
  • Ancestry Sussex Parish Registers (2,236 data sets)
  • Gravestone Photos (9 new data sets)
My maternal ancestry was in Sussex (Walberton to be exact) for many generations so I am looking forward to finding the christenings of the more recent ancestors now that many records in the 1900s are now available.

Off to hospital for a lovely 3 day stay (it is not that lovely) and then another 2-3 weeks of recovery before the next visit.  I will continue to look for new resources and upload them in a timely fashion as my health and energy allow.

Thanks for your support and use of the site.

Until the next update,

April Update

Dear OGIers,

I hope you are having a wonderful month.  The weather here in Staffordshire has been lovely.  Maybe we will have all our expected showers in May....

Today's update included 559 new data sets covering a range of counties.  This brings the current total of data sets on the OGI to 437,011.

Findmypast released a number of Salford Diocese Roman Catholic records this week.  Unfortunately they didn't give a list of content so I have just spent the past 6+ hours figuring out what the new items are and the associated date ranges.  I really hope Findmypast will up their game and match their indices with their new releases.
